On the night of Friday, November 5th, more than 10 people were burned to death in the fire in the market of Kubwa Village Abuja.
One of them was Chigozie Atomonye, a heavily pregnant teacher.
According to her neighbor, Virginus Oleru, who lost two daughters in the fire, said when the accident happened, the deceased went to meet the food sellers.
“She was heavily pregnant with two weeks remaining for her delivery, but she died in the accident.
“My other neighbor, Mr. Obinna also lost his 17-year-old daughter, while another 15- year -old daughter was injured. Their mother sent them to buy Paracetamol tablets and they stopped over to play with their friends,” he added.
At the same time, most of the victims of high-level burns are being treated in the Burns and Plastic Surgery Department of Abuja National Hospital.
Mata Ali, a middle-aged teacher from Kogi State, whose 25-year-old daughter Rosemary graduated two months ago and was involved in the inferno said the pain was unbearable and her blood pressure (BP) had been raised.
“My daughter just came to visit her uncle. Her uncle’s wife sells within the place the explosion happened. Her uncle’s wife traveled home for a marriage ceremony and she decided to help and sell when the accident happened. I heard it around 11.45p.m on Friday. Since that time, we have been praying and crying for her healing.” She told.
According to her, her daughter just graduated from the Federal Polytechnic of Technology in Aida, Kogi two months ago, and is looking forward to the mobilization of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).
“The nurses and doctors are doing their best, but the burns are so much,” she added.
