In JAMB, what is the meaning of Special Consideration (Waiver)??

It means, additional requirement for a particular course in a particular school. If your school have a special consideration for either O’level Requirement, UTME Subject Combination or Direct Entry Requirement, then please take note of it.

Note sometimes in special consideration column, the school requirement might be slight different from the general requirement. We advice you know your desired school’s special consideration for your course. ITS NECESSARY else you might be denied admission.

JAMB SUBJECT COMBINATION FOR LINGUISTICS

Below is the UTME/JAMB SUBJECT COMBINATION for LINGUISTICS in faculty of Arts and Humanities.

  • English Language(*), Any Language and two (2) other subjects.

Please note that the JAMB subject combination above is same for courses like; Linguistics and Communication Studies, Linguistics and African Language, Linguistics/Yoruba, Linguistics and Urhobo, Linguistics with Igbo/Yoruba.

SPECIAL CONSIDERATION (WAIVER)

  • AAUA accepts two (2) Arts subjects and any other subject, and for Linguistics/Yoruba they require any Language and two (2) other subjects.
  • ABSU accepts one Arts and two (2) other subjects.
  • BSU, KWASU and JABU require Literature in English plus any other two (2) subjects
  • IBADAN requires any Language preferably an African Language, Literature in English and one other Arts subject or Social Science subject.
  • LAGOS accepts any three (3) subjects from Arts, Sciences or Social Sciences.
  • BENIN accepts two (2) Arts subjects and any other subject.
  • UNIOSUN accepts any three (3) Arts subjects.
  • UNIZIK and ILORIN require one Arts subject and any two (2) subjects from Arts/Social Sciences.
  • UYO requires Literature in English and any other two (2) Arts or Social Science subjects.
  • DELSU accepts one Arts subject and any other two from Arts and Social Sciences.
  • MAIDUGURI requires any three (3) subjects.
  • FED-OYE EKITI requires one Arts and two (2) other subjects.
  • PHC requires one Art and two (2) other subjects from Literature in English, History/Government, CRK/IRK, Economics, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, Agricultural Science, Physics, Igbo/Hausa/Yoruba, Fine Art, Geography, Commerce.
  • ILORIN requires any Language other than English Language and two (2) other Arts/Social Science/Sciences

O’LEVEL REQUIREMENT FOR LINGUISTICS

Below is the UTME Requirement for LINGUISTICS in faculty of Arts and Humanities

  • Five (5) SSC credit passes including English Language.

Please note that the UTME requirement above is same for courses like; Linguistics and Communication Studies, Linguistics and African Language, Linguistics/Yoruba, Linguistics and Urhobo, Linguistics with Igbo/Yoruba.

SPECIAL CONSIDERATION (WAIVER)

  • AAUA requires five (5) ‘O’ Level credit passes to include English Language, Mathematics and any other language, and for Linguististics/Yoruba they require five ‘O’ Level credit passes to include English Language, Mathematics and Yoruba.
  • BSU requires five (5) ‘O’ Level credit passes in Arts and Social Sciences including Literature in English.
  • DELSU requires five (5) credit level passes at SSCE/NECO/GCE ‘O’ Level which may include Mathematics, English Language, four other subjects from Arts and Social Science.
  • EBSU requires ‘O’ Level credit pass in Mathematics and ‘O’ Level credit pass in Nigerian Language will be an advantage.
  • IBADAN and ILORIN require ‘O’ Level credit passes in Arts and Social Sciences.  ILORIN requires at least one Nigerian Language or Literature in English and one other Arts subject.
  • IBADAN requires five (5) or six (6) ‘O’ Level credit passes at one or two (2) sittings to include English Language, Arts and any other two (2) subjects. ‘O’ Level Credit passes in African Language and   Mathematics will be an advantage.
  • ILORIN requires Five ‘O’ level credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, one Natural Language and two subjects from Arts/Social Science/Sciences. UNILORIN requires at least one Natural Language and two other subjects from Arts/Social Science/Sciences.
  • KWASU requires ‘O’ Level credit passes in Literature in English, any other three (3) Arts/Social Science/Science subjects plus ‘O’ Level pass in Mathematics.
  • LAGOS requires five (5) ‘O’ Level credit passes to include English Language, Mathematics and three (3) other subjects from Arts, Sciences or Social Sciences. Social Studies and Civic Education are also accepted.
  • BENIN requires ‘O’ Level credit passes in Literature in English, one Arts subject and ‘O’ Level pass in Mathematics,
  • UNIOSUN and UYO require ‘O’ Level credit pass in Literature in English.
  • UNN – as in Linguistics, Igbo and other Nigerian Languages.
  • FED-OYE EKITI requires five (5) SSC credit passes to include English Language and any other Arts, Social Sciences, Sciences and credit in any other Language subject. Note that credit in mathematics is not required.
  • PHC requires Five (5) SSC credits in English Language and any other four (4) subjects from Literature in English, History/Government, CRK/IRK, Economics, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, Agricultural Science, Physics, Igbo/Hausa/Yoruba, Fine Art, Geography, Commerce.

DIRECT ENTRY REQUIREMENT FOR LINGUISTICS

Below is the Direct Entry (DE) Requirement for LINGUISTICS in faculty of Arts and Humanities.

  • Two (2) ‘A’ level passes or NCE to include any Language, preferably an African Language.

Please note that the Direct Entry requirement above is same for courses like; Linguistics and Communication Studies, Linguistics and African Language, Linguistics/Yoruba, Linguistics and Urhobo, Linguistics with Igbo/Yoruba.

SPECIAL CONSIDERATION (WAIVER)

  • AAUA accepts NCE credit/Merit in Yoruba, Mass Communication and Journalism.
  • BSU accepts two (2) NCE/ ‘A’ Level passes to include English Language, French or any African Language and one other Arts subject.
  • CALABAR accepts ND/NCE in Linguistics, Foreign Language or any Nigerian language.
  • EKSU requires two (2) ‘A’ Level passes or NCE credit in Arts, Social Sciences or Sciences to include any language preferably a Nigerian Language.
  • IBADAN accepts:
    a) Two (2) ‘A’ Level passes to include any Language preferably an African Language and another Arts or Social Science subject.
    b) NCE to include any Language preferably an African language and another Arts or Social Science subject at credit or merit level.
  • NOTE A certified knowledge of another language other than English Language will be an added advantage. It is also an advantage if the UTME or Direct Entry subjects include Literature in English.
  • ILORIN accepts At least two ‘A’ level passes or NCE to include any Language, preferably one Natural Language and any other Arts/Social Science/Sciences Subject. UNILORIN accepts Diploma in Linguistics from an accredited Nigerian University.
  • ILORIN and IBADAN require ‘A’ Level or NCE merit in the Arts, Social Sciences or Science subjects provided one of the subjects is in the Social Sciences.
  • BENIN and JOS – No Direct Entry.
  • LAGOS requires very good passes in three (3) JUPEB ‘A’ Level subjects:
    a) Yoruba/Igbo and any two (2) of History, CRS/IRS, French, Government, Music, Visual Arts and Literature in English.
    b) NCE merit in two (2) subjects to include a Nigerian Language.
    c) Candidates must also satisfy the UTME requirements.
  • UNIOSUN requires ‘A’ Level pass in Literature in English.  It also accepts ND lower credit Mass Communication and approved equivalent in Communication programme.
  • UNN – as in Linguistics, Igbo and other Nigerian Languages.
  • UYO accepts NCE merit in any Nigerian Language.
  • FED-OYE EKITI requires two (2) ‘A’ Level passes in Arts Social Science e.g Economics, Geography and Commerce.
  • PHC accepts Two (2) Advanced level Passes in GCE or HSC or JUPEB or IJMB in the Arts subjects including English Language, in addition to UTME entry requirements. NCE in two (2) Arts subjects including English Language, with an overall merit level Pass from a recognized College of Education, in addition to UTME entry requirements.
  • DELSU:
    a) Candidate must have at least a merit pass in French and one other Art subject at the NCE level
    b) GCE A/L passes should include French and one other Arts subject.
    c) Certified Diploma in French from a   recognized Institute like the Nigerian French Language Village and the likes will be accepted in place of ‘A’ Level French.
