How to Pass Exams with flying colors
1- Understand what you are studying
Rote learning at the eleventh hour exam is never a good idea. Learning is a gentle process.
You need to understand what your lecture is saying and what you are studying. Simply, copying notes and reading slides will not help you to learn so it is very necessary for you to understand what you are reading if you want to help yourself to succeed the semester with no stress.
You can write answers on your own words if you have proper understanding and knowledge.
2-Understand the structure of course and exams
You need to understand the structure of course, first gather all information about assignments, practicals,quizzes and exams so that you can prepare yourself in a systematic way.
Understand about the syllables and assignments, how much your assignments and online quizzes cover on your whole grade and all. And another vital thing to do is understand the exam structure, gather information about patterns of questions whether it is going to be multiple choice, short answers or others.
See the model question and question paper of previous exams.
3- Do Assignments & practice Quizzes;
This is one of the easy steps that will help you to pass your semester without any crisis.
Do assignments and quizzes as they help you learning and doing things. Another most exciting thing is that they even marry marks and grades out of total marks that you need to pass the semester.
Many assignments contribute marks on your final grades that you obtain at semester.
For any example, if your pass mark is 50% and you obtain total 30% grades from your assignments then you only need 20% on your final exam to get pass the subject.
But remember this amend is not applicable in some courses.
4- Study in group;
Group learning and study is fun and productive. We can discuss the problems and hard topics together or even help each other with lessons and study things.
For an example, your friend might be top at mathematics but not so sharp in Accounting. In the same way you might be good with Accounts but poor in Mathematics, you can help each other with subjects and learning. You might help each others with assignments and tasks.
Working and studying with a friend during exam is also never bad idea because you guys can discuss the questions and cover them but make sure you do not play video games or discuss about Football during your group study.
5- Understand the marking scheme;
Before you go anywhere near an examination, it’s vitally important to understand how the marks are allocated.
You might find that 75 percent of the mark comes from the exam you sit at the end of the academic year, while the remainder is allocated by your teacher based on coursework or projects you do during the year itself.
It’s very important you understand the marking scheme, whatever it is, right at the start. If 90 percent of your mark comes from coursework and you do that poorly all year, you can’t expect to save yourself at the last minute with a sudden good exam performance.
Similarly, even if you’ve done brilliant coursework, if it counts for only 10 percent of your total mark, you still need a good performance in the exam.
If you understand where your marks will come from, you can allocate your efforts accordingly.
6- Focus more on your weak subjects;
Aim to revise everything but devote more time to things you don’t understand or know less well.
It sounds obvious, but it’s surprisingly hard to do.
Why? Because we like doing easy things—so our tendency, when we revise, is to concentrate on the things we already know.
If you’re not sure what your weaker subjects are, ask your teacher or look at the marks you’ve received on coursework through the year.
Prioritizing weak subjects also goes back to understanding the marking scheme.
Let’s suppose your examination involves you writing three essays. Most likely they will carry equal marks.
Even if you know two subjects off by heart and get perfect marks, if you can’t write a third essay you risk losing up to a third of the marks.
So weak subjects will have a disproportionate effect on your total mark, dragging your overall grade down much more.
That’s why you should give weak subjects most focus.
7- Ask for help;
If you do not understand something from the class material or have some questions how to properly organize exam papers, do not be afraid to ask.
First of all, you may seek help from your professor.
They will only be happy if you address them for help regarding exam papers organization or if you just ask them to explain some material in a more detailed way.
The best way to ask for help is straight from the point when you find something confusing during the class.
If you have almost finished the course but have not got the idea how to properly structure exam papers, then you might end up searching for some free exam papers on the Internet.
8- Have confidence, Fear kills;
Confidence and strong belief in yourself are actually decisive factors.
Even if you learn a lot and are a diligent student, but have problems with your confidence, you might not succeed in the exam as you will be constantly hesitating about each answer to the exam questions you provide.
9- Get a good sleep prior to the exam day;
Before the exams day, you need to feel relaxed and fresh.
Therefore, do not get the habit of burning the midnight oil.
There are all chances that you will be so tired and sleepy that you won’t be able to answer even those questions you knew perfectly.
10- Read Questions carefully and understands them;
Read the question closely and make sure you really understand what you need to write.
When providing answers, be as succinct as possible.
When you are required to provide a specific answer, please do so – do not start with some general background information if t is not needed.
Do not waste your time on it.
11- Distribute Time for each question wisely;
When you get the exam paper, take a close look at the questions and think how much time on average you will spend on each question.
If some tasks are really confusing or complicated, do not waste time on them – first, focus on providing answers to those questions you know.
This is the last but not the least. In order to pass your papers, you need to pray hard unto God for success. Remember prayer is the key to success.
In conclusion, students should start preparing for their exams the very first day they resume. They should make sure they understand everything, study broadly, avoid distractions & pray to God for success.
