Call off your strike – Alumni calls on Academic Staff, Kaduna Poly

The Kaduna Polytechnic Alumni Association has appealed to the leadership and members of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics to call off its ongoing strike.

Aminu Haruna Maipampo, National Secretary of the Alumni in a statement expressed worry that the Kaduna Polytechnic students, especially the evening students, have been battling with their ND and HND programmes since 2017.

He said, “The negative effects of the strike has been so devastating on the students, socially, morally and financially.”

Noting that even though the Federal Government has shown less concern to the agitations of the ASUP when compared with its ASUU counterpart, he pleaded that the ASUP gives the federal government another chance as it requested in its last interface with the Union to continue addressing its demands.

The National Secretary explained that the Governing Councils has been put in place in all Polytechnics, Visitation Panels inaugurated and the Bill to stop discrimination between HND and BSc just passed third reading at the floor of the Senate.

The statement explained, “I will like to also advise the ASUP National body to change and re-strategize its approach in pressing home its demands because my findings revealed that most State-owned and even some Federal Polytechnics did not join the ongoing strike, which made it difficult for the strike to be fully effective.”

He assured the ASUP National Body that its agitations would be the main focus of discussion in the forthcoming meeting of the Forum of Nigerian Polytechnics Alumni Association (FONPAA) next month in Nasarawa State.

He also assured the ASUP of Kaduna Polytechnic Alumni Association’s total support and solidarity in its future agitations to make Technical and Vocational Education better in Nigeria, while pleading with the Union to consider the appeal.
